Frequently asked questions
What geographical areas do you work?
We service Vancouver, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Delta, Richmond, Tri-Cities, Surrey, Langley, White Rock.
What materials do you use for your base?
We use city-approved road mulch which is engineered for compaction. It is basically a combination of different sizes and shapes of rock/recycled asphalt which is mixed with sand. A lot of customers think that rock by itself is suitable for compaction - nothing could be further from the truth. You need sand to fill in the voids between the rocks. Crushed rock by itself is brittle and very unstable when packed.
How long before driving over new asphalt ?
You can start walking over new asphalt almost immediately after paving is completed. I would advise not driving over it for at least a week and possibly longer in summer. Asphalt takes approximately one - two years to cure/harden and special care should be given during this time period. When you do start driving on it, don't stop on the new asphalt or turn your wheels on it, just drive straight on and off. Tire marks or "scuffing" happens very regularly on new asphalt - it is a temporary and cosmetic occurance. For furthur information on "tire scuffing", google it or visit the website www.asphaltinstitute.org using the same search words.
Do you try to kill any weeds before paving?
Not any more. We used to spray diesel on them which really was helpful, but can't do it any longer because of environmental concerns. We advise property owners to take care of the problem before we come to pave over it. Opinions are varied as to what is effective in killing weeds, if anything. Most agree that killing the roots is the best method, but your safest bet is to talk with the experts.
Do you pave on rainy days ?
No, the tack oil (bonding agent) washes away in the rain, so the new asphalt won't stick to the old asphalt - it must be dry. It is the same as trying to get a band-aid to stick to a wet finger.
When is payment due?
Payment in full is due upon completion. We do issue receipts.
Are your prices competitive?
Our prices are very competitive. There are a few illegal (unlicensed) rookies who may do it for a few dollars cheaper. Be advised that you get what you pay for when dealing with them.
